The IEEE Microwave Magazine is published bi-monthly, with an additional IMS Special Issue in May, and an RWW Supplement delivered with the November/December issue. The Microwave Magazine focuses on the publication of general interest review, tutorial, and survey papers rather than new research.
Most issues of the Microwave Magazine include a “focus section,” in which the technical features are invited by the guest editor, who is an acknowledged expert in the focus topic. The magazine also contains submitted technical articles, either as features or application notes. The technical content of the magazine is about 55 pages per issue, consisting of 4-5 feature articles and 1-2 application notes. Additionally, the magazine contains a number of regular columns, as well as editorial and news items.
The magazine has won two international awards for technical art from the Society for Technical Communication. The 2014 impact factor for IEEE Microwave Magazine is 1.131, higher than some IEEE Transactions. The magazine welcomes review, tutorial, and survey manuscripts in all topics of interest to the microwave engineering community; the time from submission to publication is under 26 weeks.
Developing an article for the magazine is rather different from writing for a technical journal such as the Transactions, and guidelines for preparation of magazine feature articles and application notes can be found at the following link:
Please study these instructions carefully as you prepare your manuscript.
As a guest editor, you will be working with the Microwave Magazine editorial team to make your focus section a success. As an acknowledged expert in your field, your responsibilities include inviting articles from other leading experts to create a coherent review of the state-of-the-art of the focus topic. Guidelines for guest editors can be found at:
Each year the best paper published in the Microwave Magazine, including in the IMS Special Issue and the RWW Supplement, is selected by a panel of editors. The recipient(s) is recognized with a certificate and plaque, presented at the Awards Banquet at IMS. The Microwave Magazine Best paper for 2011 is:
"Advanced Filter Synthesis" by Richard Cameron (October, 2011)
Nuño Borges Carvalho
