Biography

Harlan Howe worked as a microwave design engineer and engineering manager for 33 years before becoming the Publisher and Editor of Microwave Journal in 1990. He was elected an IEEE Fellow in 1980 for “Contributions to Microwave Integrated Circuits”. He started his MTT-S service as a chapter officer in 1969 and was Chairman of the Boston Chapter in 1971. He was also IEEE Boston Section Chairman in 1973. He was a voting member of ADCOM from 1978 to 1988 and was Chairman for Meetings and Symposia from 1979 to 1984. He was President of the Society in 1985 and is a member of the Past President’s Council. He was Chairman of the Boston MTT-S IMS Steering Committee in 1983 and has served on additional Boston IMS steering committees in 1991 and 2000 as well as IMS Technical Program Committees from 1976 to 1990. He was MTT’s representative to IEEE TAB in 1985 and the IEEE Defense R&D Committee from 1986 to 1988. He has been a reviewer for the MTT-S Transactions from 1976 to the present. He was a member of the Board of Directors for IEEE ELECTRO from 1989 to 1992 and was Chairman of the Board in 1992. He has been Chairman for Fellows and Awards of the Boston Section and a member of the Publications Committee for the past 10 years. He won the IEEE Region I award in 1992 and an IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000. Since 1991 he has worked as Co-Manager of the MTT-S IMS Exhibition and the new exhibition for the MTT-S Radio and Wireless Symposium, which will debut next January
